Addicted to World Of Warcraft

I reacently discovered the magnificent game of Word Of Warcraft (WOW) and I have been addicted ever since. I always have considered roll playing games to be for the younger people, oh my, was I wrong. It really sound silly a 33 year old can be so addicted to something as simple as a computer game. I really have to cut down my playing hours, but I’m currently a level 33 night elf hunter… and the quest continues.

WOW is a Massive Multiplayer Online Roll Playing Game (MMORPG) and is played online as the genre name says. Anybody else feel the same way?

I am 24 and have a daughter (and one on the way), and I have played WoW for a couple of years. I find that my wife helps me with not getting too addicted. It’s good to have someone that will help you regulate how often you log on. What server do you play on?

  2. daniel 2007/01/01 22:24

ah crap, now your wordpress plugins will never be finished…

  3. Dustin 2007/01/02 08:38

IF my computer could handle WoW, i would definitely be playing daily :P Looks like a lot of fun…oh how i would like to play an Elf anything. And 33 isn’t too old for gaming. You can never be too old for gaming (otherwise known as enjoying life) :) I’m 20, and i play my PS2 daily and soon my DS (Lemmings DS ;) )

  4. AzzQim 2007/01/02 15:38

Oh yeah, the game is a trap :D It’s ok at sometimes, just don’t let it eat you :) or to stop you from doing WP templates ;)

    Bye

Welcome to the WoW family :)
I’m 33 too and play WoW in a guild of “old” players that have to be 28 years old to enter the guild. Our oldest member is 56 and we really have fun playing together. We all have 1 or more lvl 60 characters and saw high level instances : Molten Core, Black Wing Lair, AQ40 and Naxxramas.

And in real life most of us are married and have childrens.

So wow can be played “seriously” without “eating” all the lifetime :)

  8. TJ Mapes 2007/01/03 20:21

I just recently got addicted as well… and I love it. I’m only lvl 15 undead warlock though…

    later

  9. Barry 2007/01/04 02:04

Jup, recently got a copy and a few months worth of playtime just by coincidence and all of a sudden instead of a 32 year old mr regular im a level 35 night elf hunter with a cat that meanwhile can go transparant!

  14. Bex 2007/01/08 03:59

I play Ragnarok Online and it’s pretty addicting too! I meant to do so much stuff this winter break but guess what I was playing instead :P

  15. covert.c 2007/01/09 03:00

I played on Bonechewer for 8 months before I hit 60 and got bored. I recently re-subbed in anticipation of the expansion.

But darn, Fredrick. This *cant* be good for plugin development. =)

  16. Ali 2007/01/09 21:01

If you look up addiction in the dictionary I am sure it will mention World of Warcraft :D

Love the game also been playing since release, keep up the great work.

  17. mukund 2007/01/11 08:44

    This game is a MISTAKE.

If this game never existed then i would have saved 50% of my Age. :(

WOW U suck but I am still addicted. :)

  18. Kitty 2007/01/11 13:55

I love it but I am pretty good about keeping it under control.

Sadly enough, I was looking forward to see the fireworks in Stormwind as much as the real fireworks in Sydney (mind you the real ones were much better).

  19. Alex 2007/01/11 19:55

I’m almost 32 and I too am addicted to it :D so … no surprise about it lol … check out my site from my name :)

  20. Betamacx 2007/01/12 23:03

Well, as so many before me said, put the great plugins aside for now :) Enjoy WoW!

  21. Lisa 2007/01/14 16:40

I’m 34 and my husband is 33 and we both play WoW and have been since release. We’re huge kids and completely addicted. We’re in a quite successful (as successful as one can get in a pretend world =P ) guild full of people of all ages but mostly 25+. But I won’t deny that we probably spend a little TOO much time playing.

So you’re not alone , sir. Now find a woman who likes playing just as much and you’re set for life. hehe.

  22. Kai 2007/01/20 21:53

Yep – 28 and I play – I spend a couple of hours a day on there, every other day. I’ve got family, and work commitments (from home) but WOW is great!

    Welcome to the virtual family.

    Kai

  24. Christopher 2007/01/23 03:25

Actually, 32 is the average age of a MMORPG player. That means (in general) for every 22 year-old playing, there is a 42 year-old. I’m 51 and love the games! It also keeps me connected to my kids, who live in other states and also play.

  25. GameFlashArcade 2007/01/24 18:44

    Hehe…

I just discovered rpg games about six months ago. And get this… No only am I a ‘girl’, but I just turned 56 in December.

I too always thought this stuff was just for kids… REAL kids under the age of 18. Boy, was I wrong. I’ve gotten addicted to more than one game already. Now I’m trying to figure out how to find more time for this.

I’m kind of fanatical about things I enjoy… in fact, I uploaded my OWN arcade about two weeks ago.

WOW is on my agenda, but now after reading your post and all these comments, I’m going to HAVE to try it… although my friends have been telling me steer clear of World of War IF I want to do anything else in my life EVER again.

    Cheers,

    Deborah

  26. Mladen 2007/01/25 20:43

    Hey.

Ahh I’m not as old as you guys but I love wow as much.

Anyways why i post here is because I see a lot of people like wow and maybe some one is intresting in the expansions pack.

I am having a competition where one could win this (this is bought in the EU and the site is in Swedish).

Hipe you dont mind me saying this Fredrik, thx…

  27. keen 2007/01/30 21:38

Fun way to break your wow addiction :

Sell gold online. I made almost $80 before getting banned, and now its a moot issue i laugh about!

Yes, WoW can be addicting. I played obsessively until both my undead lock and I hit 40. Once I got my mount, I went sightseeing. It really is a lovely world. Once I got tired of sightseeing I set the game aside and focused on other things.

Lately however, both the expansion and the fact that my children have become interested in the game has brought me back into it a bit. Someone should start a WordPress/WoW guild.

  34. Greg 2007/03/06 22:11

WoW is an awesome game, except that I can’t get into it (I’m 47.) So I play City of Heroes/Villains where I can fly through the air and arrest bad guys. Go figure. Good games like these eat up way too much time.

My boys (14 and 17) both have WoW accounts and they both have their 70s and come 60s. They even put up a WoW site: http://www.GotWarcraft.com (the 14yr old wrote most of the content, the 19 did most of the design.)

The only cure is to uninstall the game and destroy the disks (or you’ll just reinstall it again.

  35. Parisuhde 2007/03/09 00:23

Try to keep away from wow as I would definetely lost all my time.. :)

  41. Cweb 2007/04/03 00:56

Quit now dude. All of you suckers. In a year’s time you’ll realize how much of your life you’ve wasted, for some crappy purple drops that are completely worthless at the next expansion. I randomly came to your site today and since you asked… When you do a /played a year from now, just imagine what you could have done with all that time you spent grinding for quest items and repeatedly running instances to get your 1 in 50 drop.

I played wow for over a year, way too much. In my thirties, wife, and a baby girl. Memories from that year are skattered, as I constantly craved the escape into unreality while at work, while anywhere but in front of Azeroth.

Give it up now dude. It’s an utter waste of time and a drug that appeals to every person’s addictive behavior and craving for escape. You’ll stop spending time with your wife, your kids (if you have them) in favor of your fantasy world that means jack shit.

Search for “wow widows” man, get a hold of yourself.

Can you even believe there’s suffering and war in the IRL world when 4 million Blizzard zombies have time to waste thought, energy, and time on gearing up their avatars. End rant, I’m doing you a favor writing this.

  42. mandy 2007/04/06 11:49

I started WC when I was still a little girl, at the age of 10 when WC1 was first released. Mixing around too much with cousins, I supposed. Since then, it had became my favorite game of all times.

I only began MMORPG when WC3 was released. Rocks big time!

  43. rick 2007/04/11 16:01

Like you I never played until recently, The wife was pregnant and sick and I had to spend alot of time at home with her, I needed something to decompress and I found warcraft to be just the thing. I made it to level 42 in a couple of months. the baby is here now so it might be 6 more months before I level again. It is a great game though.

  44. Torben 2007/04/14 15:12

    WoW

  45. wow 2007/04/16 05:43

wow is all that can be said for WoW. im an addict to. and although im no where near adult hood, i share the same feelings for WoW as all of u. (im a lvl 18 night elf rouge playing on anub’arak)

  46. CWeb 2007/05/07 04:21

I was addicted for over a year, a year which I barely remember anything else but the crave for more time in Azeroth. Looking back I feel like an idiot, what a waste of time grinding the rules of Blizzard for one epic after another. Not to mention the expansion adds nothing to the game but more of the same. That’s finally what geared me to quit though, the thrill of grinding and instances had finally wore off. Spend your time wisely friends.

  47. SpeakDoom 2007/05/08 18:30

Hey Its SpeakDoom from server skullcrusher… 29 druid havin fun BG-In I love wow I just dinged in rl a few months ago im 18 now still luvin wow my friend is 36 and he plays wow too…. hit me up in the game if u get this

  48. kiper 2007/05/09 10:34

Just have to check out if you’ve gone virtual…
I started with EQ beta and played like a lunatic for three months. Then I realized how stupid I was and stopped playing entirely for a while. But I still check out the latest releases now and then to see what’s brewing. No big surprises, yet.
But the big thing about MMORPG:s is the community. If you find a great group then you’ll be stuck!
But those days are gone for me (at least for now).
I’ve got two kids (and a third on the way) now so they help me stay on track.
It’s fun to play games, especially with your own kids and IRL.
    I hope you recover… ;)

  51. Jokerr 2007/05/30 15:37

Stop while you can. I played for 8 months and had a blast. Stopped playing because I realized that you can never beat the game and that my addiction to it wasn’t worth it. It’s a great game but stop while you can. Love the themes BTW.

  52. Andrew 2007/06/17 00:34

A WOW wordpress theme would have to be well received (and you could justify those hours of in game “research”)

Look out for those CGF’s ruining the in game economy!

  53. Jenny 2007/07/06 01:05

I hate WoW. It doesn’t look all that great. So I stick with iRO. :D
