…if you haven’t already, from PC to Mac that is
. I read a magazine article today saying that MacBook is the main reason for people to make the leap. For me it was a combination of design and security.
Apple’s machines are really beautiful and the “lack” of viruses doesn’t make them any worse

. And I really do think Apple makes the best computers out there
. What would be your reason to switch?

The user-friendliness of OS 10 is reason enough to switch. But the introduction of the MacBook is definitely encouraging people to switch, along with the introduction of Boot Camp.
+ OS 10 already features a lot of the functions of the upcoming Windows Vista: Quick Search/Spotlight, Expose/3-D application switching etc and the next releast of OS X (Leopard) will include even more features and may even be released before Vista!

ash True, I can’t wait Mac OS X Leopard, seems to be released early -07.
I wonder if Microsoft manage to release Vista this decade? Microsoft just can’t keep up with Apple, already at release Vista will be old news while Apple have taken Mac OS to the next step.

I’m still stuck on a pc because of the cost of macs, and that reason alone. I think that the same can be said for many

My mates at uni have been telling me to get a mac for a while.
Now that I have a job as a software developer, hence money I will definitely be looking into it. With boot camp as a bonus for running visual studio, I cant wait for the first pay check ;~)

Sleek hardware, userfriendly and versatile operating system, parallization (http://www.parallels.com/), multimedia support…. Many reasons.
But even though I have a mac in my arsenal, I can’t get away from Linux as my primary OS of choice, and partly due to the closed nature of OS X (particularly Aqua) versus the open nature of Linux.

Price.
Is it really worth spending twice as much for the same capabilities + a sexy looking OS/peripherals. I often weigh everything up, and it just doesn’t seem worth it for the cost…
Especially when you factor in the upgradability of a mac, which i believe isn’t too hot?

For me the apple hardware is too expensive.
By all in the end this is the same computer as PC and the price is too much.

i’m more efficient with pc. a well maintained, fast pc can do everything a mac can. i agree with the expensive above as well. i had a mac mini for a while, but after the 50th time of photoshop turning off randomly while i’m in the middle of working i sold it and got my pc back.

I switched a year ago with a 15″ Powerbook and it’s been broken 4 times with the first year. At this point I’m desperately trying to come up with reasons why I should stick with Mac instead of switching back 😉 but even if the hardware has been an utter disappointment, here’s a few reasons I still love macs:
1. Mac OS X Tiger
2. No viruses
3. Cooler and easier to use software (read: better UI)

I’ve got a 1.6 GHz laptop running Ubuntu – it was like $300 cheaper then an 800MHz iBook running an obsolete copy of OS X.
I love OS X and Apple and all that… but the pricing really is ridiculous for their laptops.
Sorry, but as long as I can get more powerful system running Linux significantly cheaper then a Mac, it’ll take the PC.

james, just curious, is the same level of software available for Ubuntu as OS X?

Nothing would make me switch. I dont see any advatage of doing so.. I here lot of positve things about a Mac but nothing really solid/specfic. Rants about Mac being more secure are unjustified. I never had a problem/Crash/Bluescreen on my Windows XP with Sp2 and other updates installed. People who face such problem are ones who don’t take the trouble of updating their XP.
